Chairman’s Message

I am delighted that you are considering Bwera School of Nursing and Midwifery -Kasese, Uganda and look forward to meeting with you as you begin the quest of finding the right institution for achieving your academic vision.

Since its inception in 2015, BSNM has registered tremendous growth in student enrolment, academic performance and infrastructure, educating both young men and women in nursing and midwifery. From a pool of just 13 students in 2015 to an enrolment of 450 students in 2024, the training program is expected to further grow to over 600 students by 2025, making it one of the major health training destinations in the western region of the country. Beyond mastering academic disciplines, BSNM students are taught to be respectful and honest with themselves and others, put forth maximum effort and seek ways to support the community.

We have the responsibility to provide nursing and midwifery education, based on scientific principles, relating to theory and practice, to produce highly skilled and competent health professionals that are ready to effectively respond to the primary health care challenges of the 21st century.

As a school, we remain grateful to the government of Uganda, the BOD of Directors, Parents, the staff, students,  community and partners for your input and as a learning institution, we value your support and feedback.

Our Philosophy

We are guided by the philosophy of “working with and not working for individuals, groups and society”, an approach that defines the corporate image of the initiators, faculty and students and is made visible through intra and extra-curricular activities. We believe that healthcare is a basic right and that every person should have access to quality healthcare regardless of social status, race, gender, age or disability.

Our Institutional Objectives

  1. To produce suitably qualified nurses and midwives who can function and assume leadership responsibilities in preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative care at the hospital and community levels in all settings.

  2. To provide employment referrals and opportunities to the trained young generation of nurses and midwives to enable them to assume responsibility as better citizens in the society.

  3. To develop and deliver community health projects and ensure social responsibility for the greater good of the communities, to yield benefits for the social and economic wellbeing of the community.

  4. To foster partnerships and collaborations with public, private and civil society sectors and partners for sustainability of the school programs.

The Governing Council

The School Governing Council (GC) is comprised of elected and nominated members as well as the Head of School, who serves as an ex-official member. The GC members serve as a resource for the support and growth of our School; providing strategic guidance and oversight of the operations, establishing and approving policies, and supporting long-range strategic planning to ensure BSNM’s bright future. They include representatives of the Board of Directors, District Local Government (Department of Health), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Sports, Clinical Attachment Sites (Bwera District Hospital) and the Community.
