Competency-based Curriculum

Our training programs apply competency-based curriculum that is adapted from the National Curriculum for Certificate in Nursing, Midwifery and Environmental Health Sciences.

The curriculum provides breadth and depth of knowledge to enable the graduates of the nursing, midwifery and Environmental Health Sciences programs to make independent decisions in various situations, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct basic research in the areas of nursing practice.

The teaching comprises of theory, simulation and field practicum at the hospital and primary health care facilities while ensuring community outreach programs to the hard-to-reach areas in the region. Also, our students undergo orientation/internships in clinical nursing and midwifery with placements at regional and national referral hospitals to acquire competencies in provision of specialised health care.

The main clinical attachment site is Bwera General Hospital, located 500 metres from the school campus. It serves as the District Referral Hospital providing both Primary Health Care and specialised services.
